Firstly, I am not a coffee person, I am not an addict who starts her day with a big dose of caffeine, haha! I am a social coffee drinker, I like to go on coffee runs with my colleagues mostly all Tuesdays when most of us go to the office after working from home on a Monday. Sydney’s coffee culture is no joke. People come into the office, set up their laptop, might go through their to do list and tadaaaa – they’re ready for a coffee run and trust me that’s the best thing for your mental health. The moment we’re ready to go get our coffee, we discuss options as to what cafe we want to go to, even if it’s a 10 min. walk, we are not hesitant at all. When it comes to what coffee I like, my first preference would be a Mocha or a flat white. The former one I started loving because of my first manager in Sydney and the latter one I love because heyyy I am from India and flat white is the nearest coffee when it comes to the coffee I use to have to in India.
Coffee runs are so special that I dedicated my first blog to them and I love that. I mean, there’s so much more to Australia, specifically Sydney when it comes to writing a blog but hey, this topic is equally special. It is something about that positive enthusiasm, that laughter and cheer when deciding coffee places, getting the coffee and judging which cafe was faster. Oh oh, and how can I forget the first sip – that helps us decide whether we’re coming back to that cafe or not. Whether it’s super hot, frothy, and whether the coffee is strong enough to kick in. Also, when having a Mocha, judging whether they have used good quality chocolate and coffee is a must. That’s what defines a good good Mocha for me and many other coffee drinkers I know! One of my friends judges coffee by the take-away coffee cup. She says if that looks good, the coffee is got to be good haha I love that way for judgement but guess it is so subjective when it comes to take-away design, some like it to be beige, artistic, plain, and some like to be printed and colourful or with cute wordplay. I mean what could be more cute than posting an Instagram story of your coffee that has some cute wordplay on it, definitely would put a smile on your face!
For almost all my colleagues, coffee keeps them sane and helps them get through a busy day and for me, it is just that WORK feeling, walking in the Sydney CBD lanes and getting my coffee, total Hollywood movie feels. The coffee run experience makes me happy and helps me navigate all my meetings and tedious work, as the Aussies say here – ‘easy’!
